The University of Wisconsin Alpine Team rounded out their regular season just outside of Galena Illinois at the all-Giant Slalom 2010 Chestnut Cup. The men of the UW Alpine Team successfully defended their title with a first place finish. The women took second place even though they were missing a few of their fastest racers.
Racing under the lights on Saturday night, the Duncanson brother and sister captain combo both led the UW Alpine Team's finishers with second place results. Andrew Duncanson was edged out of first place by five hundredths of a second. Jake Kastner, Michael Witczak, Joe Kutschenreuter, Chase Rettler, Stowe Symon and Samuel Knapp all finished within the top 15 for the men. The women's team also had seven finishers in the top fifteen. Both teams won Saturday night's Giant Slalom races.
Sunday's men's GS race was won by University of Wisconsin's Joe Kutschenreuter, with six other UW men finishing in the top fifteen to win the men's race on Sunday. Emily Duncanson, Melissa Blake, Caitlin Lahr, Blake Meyer, and Tracy Polaski took spots six through ten to finish in second in the women's race.
Strong results were seen from the snowboarders all weekend with the highlight of Julia Amundson, Grace Burgio, and Christa Wille claiming all three podium finishes on Sunday.
This weekend the team travels to Marquette, Michigan to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Ski & Snowboard competition's Regional event in hopes of securing a berth to race at the national championships at Sunday River, Maine.
